On July 3rd, Luke and I (Christy) joined our neighbors and went to a professor's cookout to watch the community fireworks show. Both of our husbands work at UPS, so us wives took the kiddos for their first Wake Forest 4th of July celebration.
The very nice firefighters let us hop into the little firetruck and then blocked the sun out of Luke's eyes so I could snap a picture.

Mommy and Luke waiting for the fireworks to begin
Luke wasn't crazy about the fireworks. He held onto Mommy pretty tight.
The Wake Forest 4th of July Children's Parade was on July 4th, so Daddy was able to go with us. These people go all out to dress up for this event. We decided to watch from the sidelines and catch the candy rather than put Luke in it this year. Good choice, because he was in a pretty bad mood that morning.

Check out that ballerina!
As I said, they go all out!
After the parade, there was fun and games at a local city park. Everyone walked from the parade to the park. Here is the potato sack race. The whole morning had a very nostalgic feel to it, with the small town celebration and the familiar childhood games.
Our neighborhood cookout-John and I organized this event---Whew! It was quite the undertaking and VERY hot! We all had a great time!
